CANNED: CONTEMPORARY FEMALE POETRY

"Dulce" (sweet) is an nthology in CD-rom of works by young Argentine female poetry.

Far from the steroetypical image that quickly slips into our minds when we think of the word 'poetry' (some Shakespearean character reciting long, romantic verses with one hand held up high to his mistress' flowery balcony, and the other pressed against his heart, dramatically), 'Dulce' (Sweet) is an anthology in CD-room of works by young Argentine female poets, their own voices reciting their works to e microphone.
A round, pink, little tin labelled ‘dulce’, decorated with cartoon-like little red lips is opened to reveal not dulce de leche, but a CD-rom with the works of 12 female poets. Tranquil, electronic music was especially designed by DJ Tim to blend whith the texts and the readings of poems.

In a simple, casual style, Anahí Mallol, Lola Arias, Silvina Vázquez, Selva Dipasquale, Ximena May and Verónica Viola Fisher read their poems.
The voices of Patricia Suárez, María Medrano, Cecilia Pavón, Carolina Jobaggy, Roberta Iannamico and Ana Wajszczuk can also be heard, living a unique sense of intimacy to the works, a strange little feeling, almost as if they were reading just for you.
‘Dulce’ is the first cd of the collection of young Latin American poets that will be presented today at 8.30 pm by the independent record label Voy a salir y si me hiere un rayo at Centro Cultural Rojas, sala Azul (Corrientes 2038), as part of several activities organized to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the cultural centre, which is run by the University of Buenos Aires, Admision is free.
Originally thought to be released in 2001 with a poetry magazine edited by two of the poets (Medrano and Vázquez), `Dulce´was side A of a pair of cds: one by “boys” and the other by “girls”. “Sadly, the 2001 economic crisis did not allow us to continue running the magazine,” said Medrano, one of the editors of the CD-rom. “Silvina went to Spain, and I was left with the girls´ anthology only. We hope to release the boys´ CD soon to complete the pair,” she added.
“Recording the authors´ own voices was thought as a way to keep a historic document of poets of different countries and regions,” said Medrano. “There will be three CDs: Argentine, Chilean and Costa Rican poetry of the 90s.”
She explained that the CD-rom was also a good solution to the high costs of printing the works in book form. It will be sold for $10 at presentations and for $15 at specific book stores like Norte and Belleza y Felicidad.
“I think the flow of poetry is essencial,” said Medrano, “the works of young poets is not sold in book stores, it is a small underground network, but a strong one. Young poetry circulates like the little grass that grows between the floor tiles. Let it spread, let it move on
